Biography

Pedro Hugo Vilanova was born in Minas Gerais, studied Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, concluding part of the studies as an international student at the University of Beira Interior, Portugal. Despite the choice of graduation, his creative fuel always came from the visual arts, mainly focused in the portrayal of the human figure. What started as a natural interest in drawing evolved into the practice of oil painting and sculpture and had his practices expanded by the studies in architecture.

Work

His current research involves the exploration of space and what is captured by the unconscious look. He thus seeks to unite the vision of the world with the inner disorder. He looks for material in unlikely places, collects what is offered and what captures the attention, filters those experiences and develops something new. The artist and the architect often confront and feed off each other, the enormous interest in the human form is joined by the desire to manipulate space and create its own atmosphere.
